SHEVELL NAMED TO RUTGERS TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY PANEL

Jon Shevell, vice chairman and executive vice president of New England Motor Freight (NEMF), has been appointed to the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center Advisory Board at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ).

One of Shevell's first responsibilities will be to work with other board members to organize a symposium of freight transportation leaders that will serve as the basis for an organization to regularly address freight transportation issues in the state.

The organization, the New Jersey Freight Mobility Partnership, will bring together prominent figures in business and government to develop policies, discuss freight-related concerns, share expertise, and implement a common project and research agenda. The kick-off event, targeting government transportation officials and freight and rail industry leaders, is being planned for the spring.

Shevell joined NEMF in 1980 as assistant to the president. He was named executive vice president in 1990, and in 1992, added the responsibilities of vice chairman. Shevell is responsible for NEMF's major accounts, including Goodyear, The Gap, and Home Depot, and is often cited in industry publications and called upon to speak about sales and marketing issues. He has served for many years on the Advisory Board of the University of Michigan Transportation Department.

NEMF (www.nemf.com) is a regional, family-owned, LTL carrier based in Elizabeth, NJ. It operates 30 terminals throughout the Northeast, Florida, Puerto Rico and Canada.
