NEMF Terminals Install Solar Panels (September 2011)

New England Motor Freight, Inc. (NEMF) announced plans today for roof top solar installations for its terminals located in Pennsauken, NJ and South Plainfield, NJ. The systems will provide 98.5% of Pennsauken’s current annual energy consumption and 86.0% of South Plainfield’s current annual energy consumption. A third location at the company’s Elizabeth, NJ headquarters is also in the planning stages.

The systems are comprised of solar panels, inverters, and other soft goods manufactured in the USA, increasing jobs locally and nationally by using American-made products. By supporting the local economy and strengthening our business by lowering operating expenses, NEMF will create jobs and employ more Americans.

On an annual basis, the systems combined will eliminate the following equivalents:
  • 521 metric tons of CO2
  • Greenhouse gas emissions from 102 passenger vehicles
  • CO2 emissions from 58,414 gallons of gasoline consumed
  • CO2 emissions from the electricity use of 65 homes for one year
  • Carbon sequestered annually by 111.1 acres of pine or fir forests
  • Greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 181.5 tons (363,000 lbs.) of waste instead of sending it to the landfill.
NEMF’s Executive Vice President and COO, Thomas Connery stated, “We believe that solar technology is the future of clean and efficient energy production and that it is here to stay. Over the last 5 years solar has seen an unparalleled boom as government incentives have finally made it not only a financially feasible option but a smart business decision. It’s a win-win for America and American businesses. It will help sustain the environment for generations to come and it solidifies our business by reducing cost.” NEMF wants to be at the forefront of this movement, with New Jersey as a leader of the pack in solar installations.
