Mike Shevell, Chairman NEMF receiving highest honor
Wednesday, March 05, 2008 Elizabeth, NJ -NEMF is pleased to announce that New Jersey Motor Truck Association (NJMTA) has chosen Mike Shevell, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NEMF as the recipient of the NJMTA John F. Winchester Award. The John F. Winchester Award is presented to a member that has a long record of service and dedication to the association and has made significant contributions to promoting the welfare of the New Jersey trucking industry. This is the highest honor to be bestowed upon an association member.
About the Award
John F. Winchester was one of the founding members of the New Jersey Motor Truck Association and was in attendance for the first meeting held in December 1914. He was the association's first Secretary/Treasurer serving from 1914-1916. In 1920 he was elected to his first two-year term as President and would go onto serve a second term from 1929-1933 and a last term from 1933-1938. Winchester became the association's historian and thanks to his efforts he provided an oral history and a collection of association memorabilia. His dedication to the association and the trucking industry was a life-long endeavor.
Mike Shevell exemplifies the spirit of John F. Winchester. Mr. Shevell's fascination with the trucking business began in childhood. At age 13 he was making pickups and deliveries in and around his native Perth Amboy for his family's trucking company. Mike has been a member of NJMTA for over 30 years and is always one of the first people to pledge support for NJMTA events or issues by providing personnel, equipment or funding. He has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee and is currently Chairman of the Board. He is also Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of New Jersey Transit, a regional director of the Bank of New York, N.A., a member of the National Defense Executive Reserve of the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Traffic Club of North Jersey and the Raritan Traffic Club.
The John F. Winchester Awards Luncheon will be held on May 1, 2008 at noon at the Pines Manor, Route 27 in Edison. Governor Jon Corzine and NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri are expected to attend the function to join in honoring Mike's accomplishments.
