NEMF NAMED NJ COMPANY OF THE YEAR

New England Motor Freight (NEMF) has been selected as Company of the Year by Business News New Jersey, one of the state's leading business publications.

Each year, Business News names New Jersey's Finest 25 Private Companies. NEMF made the list in both 1998 and 1999. From the top 25, a Company of the Year is chosen.

NEMF was a small, troubled, regional LTL (less-than-truckload) carrier with less than $1 million in annual revenues when Chairman and CEO Myron P. "Mike" Shevell bought it in 1977. He saved it from failure and built it into one of the country's foremost regional LTL carriers. Today, family-owned NEMF's 30 terminals and 2,300 employees serve 12 Northeastern states, and also provide service to Florida, Puerto Rico and Canada. Through service partnerships, NEMF, based in Elizabeth, NJ, reaches 80 percent of the U.S. population. The company expects to exceed $200 million in revenues this year.

The New Jersey's Finest program recognizes the fastest growing privately held corporations, proprietorships or partnerships in the state. The field of entrants is drawn from business services, telecommunications, industrial equipment, financial services, consumer goods, construction, environmental services, transportation, media computer and health care companies. Other sponsors are PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Chase Manhattan Bank, Dendrite International and Norris, McLaughlin and Marcus, P.A.

In addition to this most recent award, NEMF was a 1997, 1998 and 1999 semifinalist in the New Jersey Family Business of the Year Awards and a 1998 and 1999 Finalist in the Arthur Andersen Best Practices Awards. Shevell was named the Ernst & Young Master Entrepreneur of the Year for 1999.
