NEMF NAMED "PARTNER IN QUALITY" BY MOEN
June 14, 2002
New England Motor Freight (NEMF) has become the first Northeast carrier to receive the Moen "Partners in Quality" award. Moen, the well-known maker of faucet fixtures is part of Fortune Brands of America, which includes ACCO, Titelist, Foot Joy, Master Lock, Jim Beam, Master Brand Cabinets and Waterloo Industries. The company gives the award annually to carriers that meet a set of rigid performance criteria.
According to Tom Ringwood, NEMF's national account executive, Moen determines the award by very closely examining numerous aspects of a carrier's performance. "It's a very elaborate process," said Ringwood, who is based at NEMF's Syracuse terminal. "They look at the carrier's financial stability, actual on time delivery, claim resolution, billing accuracy, rating accuracy, sales, operations and ability to follow up and solve problems."
Ringwood, however, had no doubts about NEMF's ability to qualify for the award. "I became aware of this award when we first started doing business with Moen in 1999. I saw that the requirements very closely paralleled NEMF's Total Quality Process (TQP), which follows a shipment through the entire process from the first phone call to payment of the freight bill. I knew we could already meet the requirements for the award. It then became a matter of documenting it."
Ringwood added that NEMF is well on its way to qualifying for the award for a second year: it was the only carrier to achieve Moen's partnership status in the first quarter.
Based in Elizabeth, NJ, NEMF (www.nemf.com) is the largest family-owned LTL carrier in the Northeast region. It operates 30 terminals throughout the Northeast, Florida, Puerto Rico and Canada, and reaches 85 percent of the U.S. population through service partnerships. NEMF is a member of the Shevell Group of Companies, which also includes Carrier Industries (third-party logistics and dedicated fleet), Eastern Freight Ways (Northeast truckload carrier), Apex Logistics (brokerage - nationwide truckload), NEMF World Transport and NEMF of Canada.
