NEMF WINS 'BEST PRACTICES' AWARD FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

New England Motor Freight (NEMF) has won the 1999 Arthur Andersen Best Practices Award. NEMF was selected from companies throughout the metropolitan area in the "Exceeding Customer Expectations" category.

The awards program recognizes the best practices of small and mid-sized companies around the world. The Exceeding Customer Expectations category examines how organizations implement and measure practices that produce superior customer service and retain profitable customers. The award is given to the company that best demonstrates outstanding customer service practices. As a regional winner, NEMF will move on to the international level competition.

In addition to winning the award, NEMF was represented by Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President Jon Shevell at the regional Best Practices Symposium, at which panelists from winning companies give presentations on their best practices.

NEMF adds its Best Practices honors to other recent major awards, including being named Company of the Year by Business News New Jersey, the state's leading business publication, and a semifinalist in the New Jersey Family Business of the Year Awards. Earlier this year, CEO Myron P. "Mike" Shevell was named 1999 Master Entrepreneur in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

NEMF is a regional, family-owned, LTL (less than-truckload) carrier based in Elizabeth, NJ. When Mr. Shevell bought the company in 1977, it had about 50 trucks and five terminals. Now, NEMF is a leading regional, family owned, less-than-truckload carrier with 30 terminals serving the Northeast, Florida, Canada and Puerto Rico. The company has revenues in excess of $200 million a year. Through service partnerships, it offers second and third-day service to 32 states covering more than 80 percent of the U.S. population in the Midwest, South and West, and is expanding to the Pacific Northwest.

NEMF's customers include such prestigious names as The Gap, Home Depot, Lucent Technologies, K-Mart, Fortunoff, Brockway, ShopRite, and Goodyear.
