PORTLAND IS NEMF'S BEST CLAIMS TERMINAL
February 7, 2006
The NEMF Portland, ME, area terminal (located at
7 Manson Libby Road in Scarborough) was named the Best Claims Terminal of 2005
at the motor carrier's annual dinner. This is the second consecutive year the
Portland terminal has received one of NEMF's major annual awards, having been
named Best Service Terminal in 2004.
In 2005, NEMF placed special emphasis on reducing
freight claims. The award for Best Claims Terminal is given to the terminal with
the lowest claims ratio for the year.
"We put a lot of importance on training and
proper loading of trailers to reduce claims. Our people are all very well
trained and they did what they were trained to do. Every worker here deserves
credit for this award," said Terminal Manager Steve Ames of Winthrop, ME.
Most shipments passing through the Portland
terminal are for next day delivery. The 50-door terminal is the base for 30
daily routes and has 60 employees.
Vice President of Operations Rich Cabral
presented the award to Ames, who has served as terminal manager since joining
NEMF in July 2003.
Based in Elizabeth, NJ, family-owned NEMF (www.nemf.com)
is the largest LTL carrier in the Northeast region. It operates 30 terminals
throughout the Northeast, Florida, Puerto Rico and Canada, and reaches 85
percent of the U.S. population through service partnerships. NEMF is a member of
the Shevell Group of Companies, which also includes Carrier Industries
(third-party logistics and dedicated fleet), Eastern Freight Ways (Northeast
truckload carrier), Apex Logistics (brokerage - nationwide truckload) and NEMF
World Transport (Puerto Rico).
